Question: Let’s say you have three computers. On one computer you install the host program but, on this computer, you never use or open an address book. On the other two computers you install the Maximizer program but the these connect to the data base on the host computer. How many licenses would one actually need for this set up?

Maximizer is licensed per named user. I would assume the setup you mention will need 2 licences.
