Hi, Feejo - under Maxlink Global Settings, there is an option to select a single Category for syncing. I'm not sure how this would work for you as the instructions state a Category is equivalent to a Max Address Book, but it's the first place I'd look.

The other alternative I can think of is to use the MaxLink Contacts Settings > Select Records and manually select the specific records to sync. Not a great option there if your Contacts list is large or very dynamic. However, since it's sorted alphanumerically by name, you could get creative and put "1" in the front of the name everyone you wanted to sync so they'd appear at the top of the list, which would make it easier to select them for syncing.

Hope this helps - R.
Hi Feejo,

My experience with ME8 and maxlink (Tungsten T2) was terrible. I could not get it to ignore personal contacts and especially events in the calendar. So I stopped using it after many hours of trying to make it work for me.

Even today most of the birthdays of my family and friends are still in the calendar of my work Max address book!

I didn't even try on ME9. Frown

I looked at a Palm app from France - MaxPocketContact from www.maxaddon.com. This looks really useful and not very expensive but there is no trial software available and I could not get them to reply to my emails (3 times) so I gave up.

I found that Outlook integration with ME9 and Palm is a good way to synchronise and seems to work really well. I'm using XP and Outlook 2003 and all of the Maximizer contacts rather helpfully can go into their own Contacts category in Outlook and on the Palm. Tasks and appointments all seem to synchronise well. Only the notes do not seem to copy across and that may be because I have not yet tried this. For my needs I want to have contact details (phone, address etc) and calendar events (appointments, tasks) so I can call customers and organise meetings without needing my PC when I'm on the road.

Cheers

Paul
- Contact are ok sync with max/outl.
- Appointment, are working, but can be improved, like TITLE (outlook use Title + details, and MAX only title, and it is limited to xxx caracters)
- Task DOSE NOT SYNC, I send several email to suggestion@maximizer.com for them to fix it on next version, I encourage you to do so.

But after checking several softwares, no one sync the 3. Always sync only 2, wounder why. I even found one that dose not even sync the calendar, how horrible.
I do not use maxlink, but Outlook-Max sync.
Feejo, I'm sorry but I'm having a hard time reading your post ... if you want to revise your question and proof read your post I'll be more than happy to answer it.

The only thing I did grab was "And what do you mean place it into a "sifferent" category.

Your Palm comes with default categories and MaxLink creates an additional one using the same name as your address book. So unless one specifiys for MaxLink to sync any or all of the default Palm cat's then it will only sync with the one named after your address book. It's all covered in the manual!

Hi, Feejo - if I read your post right a couple of the things you're concerned about are the volume of contact in Max slowing it down, and putting a * in front of the UDF's.

For the volume, how many Address Book entried are we talking about? We have tens of thousands of Address Book entries with 8 people simultaneously doing searches, insertions, updates, etc. and have no problem with speed.

For the * in front of the UDF's it's just never been an issue for us or affected anything.

Hope this helps - R.
The * is not a mandatory thing, and Max doesn't do it automatically, although I think the UDF's in the sample databases have them in front.

We put a * in front of our UDF's on our own for two reasons. First off, it ensures they come up first in the search lists. Second, I read somewhere that it causes them to be indexed to the searches run faster.

But as I said, it's totally optional and it may be that the sample databases have vreated an incorrect impression.

Hi, Rooster.

For User-Defined Field (UDF) names, the asterisk ("*") prefix is simply a mechanism for having the name float to the top of an alpha-sorted list. It does not affect the indexing of the UDF or its performance.

In earlier versions of Maximizer some System-Defined Field (SDF) names were prefixed with an asterisk to make them more prominent, but that convention has been gradually eliminated in more recent versions. Such fields *may* have received special treatment (e.g., w.r.t. indexing), but it was because they were system-defined and not because their names started with "*".
I see and I agree with Gord that a UDF is a UDF no matter how it's named. That said, I do believe that certain characters can cause a problem if one attempts to communicate with Maximizer and may want to be avoided. If memory serves me I believe their \ / ? and *. I simply do not use them in UDF naming.

Anyways, I thought Rooster and Feejo were using the asterik for some other reason related to MaxLink.
Ok sorry I wrote badbly English. I have 1400 contacts that are into OUTLOOK and not into MAX.

Do anyone sync with outlook and use Maxtalk at same time?

I will just leave it that way anyway, because If I am using autodial-up to call a friend, I don't want maximizer to say: last people you have call where YOUR FRIEND, I just not want to mix up personnal data with max.
