We are running Max 8 and currently access the address books across the network (they reside on a file server). I don't really like this setup and it seems to slow everything down. We are running a Citrix environment and I would like to move the data to the Citrix box to be accessed locally. The Citrix box has plenty of horsepower for the 14 users we have. Are there any tricks to moving the data ourside of pointing Max to the new location? Can I just do a backup and restore?

I've done this before and just create a new Address Book pointed to the new location you want to move the data to. Then I simply copy the contents of the old folder to the new one. Net time you open the new Address Book it's populate with all the data from the original. That method gives you an archive copy of the data you can access very easily and quickly if necessary. You could also do a backup & restroe as part of the process to clean the data up but I consider that optional. Of course, you need to manage it in terms of timing so users aren't in when you do the copy, and you need to shut off their access to the old Address Book since everything will look very similar between the two, but it's never been a big deal for us and we're running under Terminal Services. As always, please try it out before doing it live.
