I have been a steady user of the Maximizer product since '97
Recently I upgraded to Max 8 and also bought a Palm Pilot Zire 31.
I installed MaxLink and it seemed OK at first.
A day or 2 I tried to do a "Display all Contacts"
Max 8 came up and said there was a problem with, ( and then it just gave an ID number which I couldn't seem to identify)
I could not seem to straighten it out and am wondering:

1. Does anyone use a Palm with Max 8 sucessfully?
2. Could this just be a bug?

TIA

Paul

I use a Palm Zire 71 (I think it's a 71 - about a year old, with camera, I just don't have it by my side at the moment to confirm). Have synced it to Max7 since I've had it, and have done so with other Palms for about the last 4 years. Only problem I've really had is you get duplicate entries on the Palm. Somehow the syncing routine on accasion takes 1 or 2 entries and duplicates them, They can be Address Book entries or Notes. A minor pain, as when you go to delete the duplicates you have to manually check to see which one to keep. Othere than that, once it's working, it keeps working.

Hi,

We're using Max 8 Enterprise. I tried using MaxLink when I bought my Tungsten 2. I couldn't make sense of it. All my personal contacts (and their birthdays etc.) suddenly appeared in the company Maximizer database! I spent a long time fiddling around and eventually gave up.

Unless I'm wrong it would seem that you need to practically dedicate your palm device to Max for this to work successfully ... or what was I doing wrong?
ZapMaster, I think you're correct. It seems you get all public entries synced with your Palm. For that reason alone we are not using Palms with the company database. It's unfortunate, but I can see where there might be a problem deciding which records should sync - you couldn't just say "all public" + "all private to this user". The administration of that would be a nightmare - sooner or latyer someone would forget to flag a sensitive personal entry as private. I don't know how other contact managers do it, but I'd be interested.

Rooster,
With Goldmine I use Companion Link (US$80) very successfully to sync with my Ipaq... 3700 series. The sync tool within Goldmine itself is also crap.

I have just purchases Max 8 and investigating a change over. However, after reading all the issues with Palm syncing on this site I'm reluctant to rush out and spend $700 on a new Palm T3 or T5. I have the latest MaxLink software but there appears to be too many problems and I "sleep" with my Ipaq. I'd be lost without it.

Has anyone used MaxPocket (Aust$200) for Ipaqs? I have a trial which I'll be trialling very soon. Are there any issues anyone has had which I should know about?

Cheers
Peter
I have about 9 users syncing on thier Garmin - Palm OS - had one major issue with the conduit on one, but once the palm data was reset (removed) and resynced it worked fine. As far as personal data getting into the company database, happens all the time. There is a specific setting on the maxlink software that needs to be checked to not sync personal data. Not sure if it's the default to sync personal data, but considering how many times it ends up in the database, I think it is.
