Is there any way to put the Pervasive Database Engine in the services instead of the Startup folder ??

I've tried with the 2000 Ressource Kit to create a new service that start W3DBSMGR.EXE (this will start the database engine whitout any logon users intervention) but it doesn't seem to start properly.

Any idea ???

The fastest way is probably to buy the Client/Server engine. But Pervasive do have documentation.

Configure Workgroup or Workstation Engine to run as a Service

The document above is for WinNT 2000 and XP

Or alternativly if you do not want to use the Windows startup folder.

Add the following string value using "regedit" under Windows 9x - ME

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices]

Pervasive.SQL 2000 Workgroup = C:\\Pvsw\\Bin\\W3dbsmgr.exe -BTRV (for Max6 or older) -SRDE (Max 7)

Windows 9x executes any string value found in this key before you log on to the system.

When using this feature

There is no tray icon displayed for the Workgroup Engine

The Engine starts after the Operating System is loaded.

The Engine must be stopped using the Task Manager utility and the "End Task" option.
