Hi,

I wonna know if it's possible to run the Pervasive Database pre-Load as Windows Service.

I use Maximizer 7 on a machine which lodges the data and which at the same time acts as gateway for the other station. I noticed, when it there not session of open on the machine which lodges the data, the others cannot have access to the data. I said myself, while rolling, Pervasive Database Pre-Load as a service, the problem will be solved. You have a solution for that. Thank you in advance

There's also a utility you can download from Pervasive that will turn the database engine into a service.

This will probably exclude you from any support directly from Max in the future should you start to have problems. I talked to them about this before and they told me that I was more than welcome to try it, but since it isn't a supported configuration there was a limit to how much support they could provide should something go wrong. I managed to convince the people I was working with to just live with it as an application, so I've not had any personal experience.

Something to keep in mind, anyway.

Hmmm. I didn't find any such utility at the Pervasive website, but I did find an article in their Knowldege Base that says you can run w3dbsmgr.exe as a service under Win9x as well via

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices

That's handy to know as well!
My memory must be failing. I thought that it was a utility they provided that would do this all for you, but I guess not. It's been a while since I actually looked at it.

If anyone else is interested, here are the ID numbers for the documents on Pervasive's KB site:

Running as a service on NT, 2000, XP: psql1828
Running as a service on 9x, ME: psql1830
