I will be Installing Pervasive SQL 2000 on NT w/(sp4) at a client in a couple of weeks for the purpose of running Great Plains Dynamics 5.5.

In addition, this client is using Max97is and wants to upgrade to MaxEnterprise.

What are the recommended Pervasive settings? (open files, locks, handles, buffer, etc.)

Is there anything I should be wary of???

Firstly, only Maximizer Enterprise 2000 will work with Pervasive SQL so make sure you've got the right version and make sure you apply the service packs that have been released for it.

Secondly, the best thing would be for you to download the new FAQ on using the two products together on www.maximizerenterprise.com. When you get there click on the support button.

Maximizer 97is will work with Pervasive.SQL 2000 if configured correctly.
You may find this described as an unsupported configuration and its certainly not part of the product spec.
To get it to work you can set it up just like Maximizer Enterprise 2000, however you may have some problems
with switching between local and network databases, and sometimes the holiday file.
The best option is the (unsupported) use of btrieve 6.15 /451 client DLLs on the workstations if you must have a '97 client and a P2000 server. I note however that you've a second pervasive application and so this may not really be an option.

The best advice is to go to Enterprise 2000 at the same time as Pervasive 2000 as they are made for each other.

The FAQ mentioned by Phil (pervasive2000.pdf) gives good advice but not the settings you need. There are a number of things that you must set - usually a business partner can help with these as they depend on your server and the number of database and users on your system:

Most critical are:

the Communications Buffer Settings which should be
Communication Buffer Size =63
MKDE Communication Buffer Size =63
Read Buffer Size = 60

Compatibility
Create File 6.x - Check how this may impact your other application

and in Performance tuning
Largest Compresed record >=2

There are other settings that may effect capacity and performance - the default will probably surfice.
For these I suggest you either read these up in the documentation or get assistance of an experinced
btrieve installer (we would normally suggest this when setting up client server btrieve/pervasive.SQL 2000).

Make sure the clients are installed: Target = Try Server then workstation

Install Maximizer before setting up the Pervasive client as it re-configures it in an unhelpful way.

Make sure you either have the Pervasive.SQL 2000 SP1 release or download the build 154 service pack from www.pervasive.com

Make sure you have the Maximizer Enterprise service packs from www.maximizerenterprise.com

I hope this helps...
