Hard drive did not crash, but got new computer running XP. Since reinstalling Max 7, cannot open documents created in old MS Word - Max 7 says "Record currently in use. Waiting for access to record." "Stop Waiting". Could there be a problem with the old MS Word documents not being supported by Max & now running XP? - If this is not a problem, then how do I fix the problem so that I can open the older documents?

XP isn't an issue. I'd suspect Pervasive, as Word would allow you to open the document as Read Only. Simple question, but have you rebooted the machine? If you have, you may want to look at how Pervasive is installed or remove/reinstall it. For the last two points you may need the assistance of a Business Partner or the Max support line.

Morning,

Sorry to hear you are having problems. I suspect the problem you are running into here is caused by the records still being locked within the database.

If a reboot hasn't cleared the problem then you may want to try the following:

1. Exit Maximizer on all machines and exit the Pervasive Engine on all machines.

2. Look in the data directory for files with a .lck file extension and delete them.

Then restart the computer and see if you can access the files. If you can then all is good. If not then the record locks are probably internal and you will need to run a backup and optimised restore of the database to free them up. This should be easy enough to do following the attached document, however if you run Max Exchange Synchronisation then you should really talk to a business partner about getting support as it becomes a little more complex.
