Problems with database size

We are using the network version of Maximizer 5.0 (9 users over Novell). There are about 3000 clients in Maximizer, but the database size is 1.6 GB! There is a large amount of stored documents sent to customers. As a result the system occasionally locks up.

1. Is there a way to compact the database or improve performance?

2. Can an upgrate to Maximizer 6, or Enterprise halp?

3. I have noticed that a lot of the stored documents created with the Maximizer's templates have the company logo on it. Is this adding substantial overhead? If so, is there a way to "clean up" the existing documents stored in Maximizer?

Stan,

The imbedding of large images is a classic cause of rapid database growth but its not as much of a problem as it might be.

You would eventually have a problem soon as the maximum btrieve file size is 4GB (eg. MXZL.MAX).

If you were on Enterprise 5.5 or 2000 you can change the system to pervasive 7 file format removing this limitation.

As disk space is so cheap I really don't think its much of a problem... Except if you use Max Exchange where the handling of very large database can take a while. Laptops however often have 10GB disks so even then its not the end of the world.

If you really want to purge you can do it two ways:

a) use Purge on the file menu to clear old documents
b) make an Archeve copy and then have a selective delete frenzy!

In both cases a Maximizer Backup/restore afterwards would be a good idea.

A 'Smart' clean up is really difficult as the documents file in Maximizer has little direct access.
