Is there a way to mass remove data using global edit on a user defined table field? My field is "mailing lists" and the value i want to remove is "mass email updates" to no value in that field. Global edit only lets me change or add values, not remove them to nothing.

Hi there.

I'm afraid that what you're attempting to do is not possible in the way you're attempting to do it.

You could potentially try this though:

1. Create a new value in the Table UDF called 'Delete Me'.

2. Globally edit the records (make sure the Global Edit rules are set to 'Replace Table Values') to change them all to the 'Delete Me' value.

3. Once the Global Edit is finished you can then got back to the UDF Setup and delete the 'Delete Me' value from the UDF. This will remove it from all records and should leave you with a blank field.

Please Note, the above process will probably only work if the Table UDF in question is a Single Value UDF, if its a multiple select UDF then the process will probably add the 'Delete Me' value but not remove any others.
Hi, I have a similar problem except the fields I need to empty are the fields where the telephone extension number goes, so they aren't UDFs and the solution above won't work I don't think.

Some history. I implemented a work-around long ago, entering the text "main" "fax" "cell" and "desk" in the extension field. This was because when Maximizer prints a contact list, there was no way to know which number was which--say I didn't have a fax number (the second number in my contact info) for a contact, then when printed, the cell number (3rd in list) prints in place of the absent fax number and I couldn't tell their fax from their cell or desk number. I've since figured out how to format the column setup using the "blank" delimiter which causes a hard return and line break. So now my on-screen and printed address books indicate what is a cell and what is a fax or main or desk number.

But back to my problem, I've also installed MS-Office 2010 beta. Now finally MAPI works and I can at last synchronize Maximizer contacts and calendar with Outlook which in turn will sync with the contact list on my Windows Mobile phone. (Oh why is everything so cludgy and requires so much work around?).

But now on my cell phone, the phone numbers read like this "604-555-1212 x cell". The "x cell" is coming from my manually entered notes on what the phone number is for. And the cell phone won't dial the number with the appended text. If I manually delete "x cell", then the phone will dial the number.

So my task is to delete all the text I've typed into the extension fields. There are almost 2,300 entries. Too many to do by hand.

I can't use Global Edit to replace those entries with an empty entry. I'm thinking of replacing the entries with a space.

Any other solutions? I'm so close to having Maximizer sync to the contacts on the phone. I have MaxMobile Lite, but it takes too many key strokes to get past the password and more keystrokes to conduct a search just to look up a phone number. Working with the Contacts in Windows Mobile is much faster....only if it would dial. So close, so close.

thanks,
-Tony

Sometimes writing out the problem is therapeutic. I did a global edit and replaced every entry in all 4 phone extension fields with a space character. Interestingly, the space character gets stripped when exported to Outlook as I suspected and not passed onto the phone. The phone dials now.

I can report that after 18 months of owning the Windows Mobile HTC Touch Diamond, I now have Maximizer sync'd with Outlook on the PC and Outlook sync'd with Contacts and Calendars on my cell phone. And the sync'ing works both ways Maximizer to/from the cell phone. Yipee.
