We are running Max 5.5 with a pervasive back-end, with about 6 users (our company has shrunk) and about 10K Contacts, Two of our workstations take forever to load the database, When it takes most 3-5 seconds to load it takes them 15-30 seconds. One is on NT and the other is on Win 2K, both machines are good proformers in other apps. Is ther some registry tweeks that I'm missing?

I have just upgraded from ecbuilder 5 to 6, and now use the Maximizer 7 OrderDesk facility to read orders. I use it on a single pc. Pervasive database loads in the background (although I have no idea whjat it does). Moving to Maximizer has given me 2 problems, related to this post:-

One is that every time I open Maximizer, it goes through a time consuming restore process. I have stripped the no. of columns dow to 2.columns, but to no avail. I currently have just 96 entries in the address book.

The 2nd problem is that I need to import more contacts from the previous version of OrderDesk. For each new addition the list is restored, as it is when a new order comes in, and this takes an age too.

I have a 700MB computer with 512RAM and I use WinXP. Any suggestions in how to speed up this process would be much appreciated. Thanks.

How "time-consuming"?

>I have stripped the no. of columns dow to 2.columns, but to no avail.

Which two columns?

>I currently have just 96 entries in the address book.

That's not a lot.

Have you tried opening the tutorial database to see if it behaves in a similar fashion?
>How "time-consuming"?

1 1/2 mins to load 347 records (which either have an order or query linked to them). This is reduced to 40 secs when I take offf Norton's auto protect (the ponly reference to performance I can find in Maximizer's FAQ. For each order (record) I add it takes about 30 secs. Seems too long?

>which two columns?

Name & country (if I change view all the other fields load very quickly).

>Have you tried opening the tutorial database to >see if it behaves in a similar fashion?

I haven't tried that, I'll give it a go and report back. Thansk for your help.
There can be another reason for this,

If Maximizer had the Email window open behind the address book window at close, then it will open and reopen the Email window (all invisibly).

This is not a problem unless you have a huge untidy inbox (like me Smile)

Then it will seem to drag for a long time until the inbox has loaded.

Try closing the Email window before you close Max, then reopen if the problem goes away then maybe its time to tidy up your inbox...

Yes, thanks for that. I tiled the windows to see what was open... my problem wasn't with email, it was with OrderDesk (all of my contacts have at least 1 order or inquiry). The address book now loads in a jiff. So thanks for that.

But one more question, if I may. The address book has a tab called 'Address Book OrderDesk'. I think this is meant to show an individual's order/inquiry(s) without having to load OrderDesk itself. Mine shows nothing (altho the 'note' area shows that an order has been imported).
