I own Maximizer 9
2 licenses.

Good to one and all

My set up is that I have a server along with 2 licenses that I use, 1 on my computer and 1 on my wifes computer. We have never had a problem with our address book since we started, but yesterday something strange began to happen.

1. I opened the address book an at first thought everything was deleted as there were no entries in the address book. Then I noticed that the "Column" layout had changed from the default look which was "Default Information 1 (with labels)". Although this view was still selected, the view had changed. Up till yesterday the left side of the top column said "Name-Phone Numbers-Email" the right column said "Company-Address-Webpage". Now the right column just said "Phone 1" and there was nothing in the left column said nothing.

2. I started messing around with the views and selected "Detailed Information 2" which seemed to work. Although I didn't like it as much as my original selection, all the information was there so I settled on that. Then I decided it would be good to back up Maximizer 9 so I did and then reopened the address book although the layout was still messed up in the "Default Information 1 (with labels)" view. At this point we worked the remainder of the day and Maximizer worked perfectly under the new view.

3. OK, so today we start are work day and after opening up our address book the "Detailed Information 2" view is now messed up the way that "Default Information 1 (with labels)" was yesterday, now this is getting scary, seems like my Address book is self destructing. I decide that the first thing that I would do is restore the address book from the back up I did before. I closed the address book opened up the Administrator, logged in as MASTER with my password. I then clicked "Utilities" and OMGosh the back up and restore options are "greyed" out, meaning neither one can be selected now!

4. I rebooted the server only to find out that I have the same problem, nothing is changing. So I start to wonder if the server itself can be causing a problem. I copied the address book off the server and pasted it into the HD of one of the Workgroup computers. Then I created a new name for an address book in Max 9 and selected that directory on the Workgroup computer as the default location of the address book and it opened fine. I selected my original view of "Default Information 1 (with labels)" and it looked normal the way that it did before the problem started, so I think, "OK, maybe the original file corrupted" So I decided that I would back up the file on the Workgroup computer that I had just opened under a new name, but guess what, the backup and restore options are stilled "greyed" out, I cannot restore or backup this file.

Good afternoon Paul,

First off I'm sorry you're encountering problems, lets see what we can do to help.

When running a restore of a database it is important that you not be logged into any databases, so in the administrator click File>>Close Address book then look at the utilities menu again.

Next up, the data in your database is going to be fine, the column setups are stored in a totally separate file to all the other data. After you have run the restore (which you should do with the 'Use Optimised Restore Method' box ticked) log into the database in the Administrator (click file>>Open Address Book) and run the address book validation from the file menu, run this in Verify & Recover mode.

That should do a check on the database and sort out any little problems with the files.
Thank you for the reply. Well, I tried everything that you stated for me to try and although I can now back up and restore the default view for "Default Information 1 (with labels)" still is not working correctly.

I then went to the Column setup screen and compared what was in there to what was in the setup screen for the (no lables) option and it seem to me that there was something really wrong. The Column setup screen for (with lables) appeared to be missing a lot of information meaning that what was showing in the setup field was consistent with what the address book was showing, but consistently wrong in both cases.

However, I believe I may have solved the problem. I closed the address book and opened one of the example address books that you have the option to install when you first install Maximizer. Then I clicked File > Transfer > Column Setups. Then I chose the same setup, (with lables), and transferred it to my address book.

Now everything seems to be OK!

Cheers!

I have almost always had problems with the windows layout in Maximizer, with the exception of earlier versions i.e. Maximizer 3. Subsequent to that it runs along fine until one day the programs open up in my requisite classic view but the slider bars are all in the wrong spot. Instead of having evenly spaced windows like I usually do, the bottom two windows are dragged way off to one side AND/Or to the bottom of the screen. Changing the selection to "save window settings on exit" does absolutely nothing to correct this. When I upgraded to V9 it worked fine for about 3 months then - I'm destined to have to fix the layout each time I open Maximizer.... I suspect this is a common problem as I can't believe I'm the only one experiencing this. Any ideas on how to fix?
We are experiencing the exact same problem as you Mike. One of our users has to amend his layout everytime he logs into maximizer. We have tried the "save layout" option- no success.

-We have so far identified that the layout settings are not saved on the local machine
-When the same user logs on to another machine- he experiences the same problem -other users are fine.
-In our situation it seems like the files containing the settings on the server for that particular user are corrupt?

I would appreciate if any one could advise.

That sounds very odd, especially as the windows layouts are saved locally not to the database. All the layout information, such as positions of windows and toolbars are saved into:

HKEY_Current_Users\Software\Maximizer Software (or Multiactive Software in older versions)\Maximizer\Modules\AMGR

I would suggest you delete the AMGR Key and all its subkeys from his HKEY_Current_User, this will reset Maximizer to the default layout next time it starts and should allow you to save the positions again.

Do you use MS Windows Roaming Profiles? If so that would explain why the problem occurs on each machine he logs into as the HKEY_Current_User keys move with him from machine to machine.
