Success in upgrading from Maximizer 5.0 to 6.0! Thanks to Gord Thompson for his memo helping us. However, searches seem slower, and backup of the files to a Zip drive on the workstation is definately about 4 times slower. We have over 100,000 files, and it was faster with 5.0. We have two computers connected to a Linux Server. One of the computers has been designated as the server (gateway). We backup and restore files using Maximizer on the workstation. Any suggestions to speed up, or have we done something wrong?

I have found 6.0 to be somewhat slower than 5.x, particularly on older machines with less than 64MB of RAM.

Can you try a backup on the gateway machine to see if that makes any difference?

Other things you could consider:

Perhaps the gateway machine is overworked. If it is doing other things in addition to being the workgroup server, then maybe it is just running out of memory or processing power. You could try running System Monitor (Win9x) or Performance Monitor (NT) to see if the machine is "hitting the wall" in one of these areas.

Maybe the network is the bottleneck. If you have a 10Mbps network, consider upgrading to 100Mbps.

If you want to "check your work", you can download the Maximizer 6 Peer to Peer setup documents at http:// 204.174.40.40/scripts/content.asp?ref_no=001114-0079.
