An UDF (user-defined field) is 'created' globally, but applied individually. Other contact mgrs, i.e. GoldMine or ACT, apply a user field globally, which means, if you create a field, it is now connected to each record in the database.

Maximizer does not work this way. You create the UDF, specifying whether it is a Company, Individual, Contact UDF or a combination. However the UDF is not attached to a record until a specific action is taken.

You might want to look in Help for more info on how UDF's work.
Thanks for your help. I've read and read again the Help files regarding this subject. Let me give you an example of what I've done.

Using the User-Defined Fields function from the Administrator window, I set up a new field and marked it as valid for only Companies. It now appears "attached" to every Company record in my database. I did nothing more than I've described above.

To give you a bit more information, I have a database of companies that might want to buy my product. When one does buy it, I'd like to add a user-defined field to that single record where I can describe what they bought.

Thanks.
