Thanks Gord Thompson for the script. It didn't run on our Unix server.
We now have a solution but it's still not 100%. The MTI file is delivered to the recipients defined by the mesage rules. The visitor sees the success and fail page so they are also happy. Once we have solved the problem caused by the script sending annoying failure messages received at the same time as the MTI attachments, we will have it cracked.
My advice to anyone trying to impelment this feature is to speak to your hosting company's PERL specialist without delay and before you waste hours of your valuable time (like we did). Ask them if they see any reason why this this script will not execute.
Multiactive's online support document is valid and relevant but it still won't get your script to run.
We Were seduced by these help files and other instructions to believe this was straight forward implimentation. Three months later a party at Multiactive (who shall remain nameless) admitted that while it worked for them, it did't seem to work for anone else. Mmmm. Three wasted months......and I have a relationship with Multiactive that goes back 10 years!
It gets worse. Assuming we'd unbugged the code ourselves it would still have failed to run since it was falling foul of out hosting compananies spam protection measures. The emails would have been blocked.
When you do chat to your hosting company, be prepared for them to be real twitchy about the secutity threat (from professional spammers) this form poses to them.
To keep them happy I agreed to have the message rules and instructions to the sever hard coded into the PERL script. It was the least I could do for having them sort out someone elses mess.....
THis is not the time and place to sound off at Multi-Active and it would be unfair to the people who have attempted to help us get this solved (Patrick Wong). We do however plan to invest more time ensuring users are properly informed about the steps needed to get this feature to work as they claim it does.
AS successful web marketers we have a very real need for this form and that's why we have persisted. If you are thinking of implimenting a MAX Web Form just because......, maybe you should think again.
If you too have had these problems please let me know. I can be reached at geoff_morris at hotmail.com.
