What is the best size for a document's template in Max editor

Hi,

I need to create document's template with logo. Can I use JPG file? When I use it and when I transfer it, the size is too high (1,39 Mo). The same with .BMP. In Max 7.5, this problem didn't occur.
How can I see the size of a document in Max 8?
